The Wimbledon Tennis tournament is the one of the oldest tennis tournament. It is the most prestigious tournament in the Tennis history and has been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877.
It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments of the year, and the only one still played on the game’s original surface, grass, which gave the game of lawn tennis its name. It is the only Grand Slam event not to have a fixed date, takes place over two weeks in late June and early July.
The first Wimbledon event was staged in 1877 by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, to raise money for a new roller. The competition had only 22 male participants.
